Howard the Duck
So everybody and their mother wants Dean to drop out, eh? Planetarium is somewhat bummed by the overwhelming dominance of Kerry in the primaries, but at the same time, wildly unconvinced by the assertions of pro-Edwards, pro-Clark (although a little late for them now), and pro-Dean people. Everyone seems to have decided who is the most likable or electable, but frankly, put bags over their heads, and nobody would be able to pick them out in a line-up. For every flaw of Kerry, the other guys have weaknesses just as vast- how about the fact that Edwards was also prompted to run by the fact that it was looking very much like he was going to lose his re-election run for his own Senate seat? How about Clark's big fun anti-war speeches at Socialist-sponsored rallies? How about Dean's, well, do we even need to say it? The fact is, none of these guys are show ponies, they're just a warm body with as few skeletons in their past as possible, so that the Dems can try and unseat Bush. That is, if the DNC actually cares to make an effort to win this time around- they don't have a great track record with this kind of thing, you know. Caring, that is.

I guess I don't understand the point. They're Democrats for christ's sake! We're not electing a new dad or picking a roommate. I'm thinking the difference is the ability to speak to an audience. Clark clearly bombed that test. Dean I think was great at it most of the time. Kerry's ok, not as bad as I once thought. Edwards always looked really comfortable doing that, to me. I just think the way to counter Bush is putting someone next to him in a debate who can talk and make it obvious that Bush can't improvise. Note to DNC: Bush still hasn't spent a dime of his $200 million. Look out.

What about Clark's anti-war speeches at socialist-sponsored rallies? Am I supposed to understand what you mean by that? And Presidential Show Ponies? What the hell is that supposed to be? Have there been such a thing since the Cold War? Since Eisenhower? Or Roosevelt? What are you looking for in your Democratic nominee? And, furthermore, do you really think that any of the Democratic song-and-dance will amount to a hill of beans when confronted with the fascist juggernaut? You're familiar with my theories on the matter; if junior rigged the election once before, there's obviously nothing to stop him from doing it again, and this time with the entire apparatus of the US state as his command, plus a hefty 200 million dollars that is very aptly referred to as a war chest. Reichstag, anyone? It's gonna be big fun for all of us.
